Here for sale is a 1979 RICKENBACKER 4001 bass with all original parts and original hard-shell case. The serial letters on the jack plate are “SD” which dates this bass as being manufactured in 1979, April. I bought this bass in 1982 from a local music store for $400.00. I had the neck pick-up professionally upgraded to a Bartolini humbucker and fell out of playing music a few years later. Since that time I have kept this bass stored in its case with the strings loose and in a temperature controlled environment. I started playing again about four years ago and had the bridge pick-up professionally upgraded to a Bass lines SRB-1B Bass Humbucker. Through all this time I have saved all the original parts including both neck and bridge pick-ups, bridge springs & screws, chromed metal pick-up plate and chromed plastic pick-up cover. I have one original strap knob and in place are two Schaler straplock knobs. There in one thin, 1 inch long chip in the finish over the jack plate and a small nick in the finish in the backside of the headstock. The bridge has some light pitting to the chrome. The case has many nicks and dings and the “Rickenbacker” emblem is mostly worn off but still discernible. The hinges and snap locks have pitting but are fully functional and intact. This bass is in great overall shape given its age with a smooth action that plays like butter. I hate to give it up but given its increased value over the years, I haven’t been using it at any gigs and pretty much keep it at home. So here for your consideration is a professionally beefed up 4001 that can easily be reconverted back to its original set up with the original parts provided. Shipping will be actual cost via UPS.
