1983 Rickenbacker 340

The rare 340 is Rickenbacker’s totally classic semi-hollow 330 done up with a third pickup. This iconic model really stands the test of time and has never gone out of fashion. Through every phase of rock history, Rics have been there: The Beatles, The Who, Tom Petty, and all the way to modern bands like Fugazi. No doubt about it, these guitars really cut through great in a band. The construction should be familiar: all maple, semi-hollow, set-in neck construction. Dual Hi-Gain pickups that despite their name give you plenty of the vintage chime you crave, just a fuller overall sound. Easy access to all 24 frets. The trademark “R” tailpiece and truss rod cover. True, it may not look like your average semi-hollowbody guitar, but you can’t argue with the sound both unplugged and when fed into an amp.

Details

Cosmetic Condition:

This one remains in good condition. It is a vibey piece really showing its history as a guitar that got out there into the world rather than just sitting under a bed. There are nicks and scratches throughout along with some paint chips. A previous owner had touched up some of these spots with a marker or paint pen. It’s not too obvious unless viewed at certain angles or under bright lights.

Feel & Playability:

The neck has a medium to medium/thick neck profile that has a great round shape. The frets are original and do show wear to them, but mostly on the first few frets. There are no issues with fret-out or dead spots. The action is pretty easy playing and medium in height. There’s room to lower the bridge but as is pretty common on these Rics the pickup sit rather high. You can always bring them down but would need to replace the foam they sit on. Medium is good though as you can really dig in and bash away at the strings. Rickenbackers always sound great when you really hit em hard. The neck is straight too.
